MOTHER OF A GOOD FRIEND

The first glimpse of adultery
is like a young boy from an
isolated northern country
eating a ripe mango for the first time
and being truly overwhelmed
by taste and juice and color
and not knowing what to do with
the exquisite mess
of the peel
and the pulp on face
and the fantastic yellow fibers in teeth;
and instead of cleaning himself off
he runs off
not knowing what to think
about this new fruit,
about this curvaceous, haunting
fecundity.
