LETTERS FROM BOBOLINK FARM
By Barbara Tatham Johnson

Mid-November

By Russell Libby

A mid-November morning,
before the sun climbs enough to be seen;
a stillness settled with the frost.

Standing, back to sugar maples,
looking onto the fields,
each movement and sound is distinct.

Raven calls from behind and above.
Branches rustle as dogs push through.
Hairy woodpecker hammers.
Blue Jay flies across sky.

Leaves are so few, each could be counted,
but there’s no need.
They’ll all be on the ground soon.
