ONE SCHIZOPHRENIC CROW

Solitary stalker among sea gulls
He hunches brush-like pecking sunlight
In dew-sparkled grass. What he sees
I don’t know but he’s up
With a screech and a flare
Driving them off, a blizzard
Of screamers circling the field
Soaring, banking, soaring
And then they all drift down
In another place.
The black one stands godlike
Clicking to himself in the sun.
He’s made his point.
