NOSTALGIA

By Beth Clark

I used to play, in fields and forests,
without fear of being abducted.

I used to drive on scenic highways,
without seeing miles of trash.

I used to scan mountains and valleys,
without seeing cellular towers.

I used to watch planes flying over,
without considering terrorism.

I used to revere famous heroes,
without knowing all of the lies.

I used to chat on the porch with elders,
without having somewhere to go.

I used to enjoy recreation,
without feeling selfish or lazy.

I used to sleep between the sheets, nude.
Now I wear polar fleece jammies.

I guess that’s what they call nostalgia.
