MOONSTRUCK

I was visited by the moon last night
for the third time in this phase.
twice it pushed through the lace curtain
to light the hallway,
crept over the window frame to
shine on the kitchen floor,
made a faint attempt to enter
the living room by the back window,
and probably tried to illuminate me as I slept
but the shade was down;
I prefer not to be moonlit.
I’ve turned from the window at month’s end,
having heard that it does not bode well for
a sleeping person to be blanketed by
the full moon’s daylight-bright nightrays,
though long before I knew this
I slept unaware when moonstruck.
